Brewster's new deal has lower buyout, more bonuses (AP)
Minnesota coach Tim Brewster's contract extension includes a smaller buyout and more bonus opportunities. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the contract on Friday. If the university decides to fire Brewster without just cause, it will only owe him half of his remaining $400,000 annual base salaries.
Gophers make Hammock co-offensive coordinator (AP)
Minnesota has named running backs coach Thomas Hammock as the team's co-offensive coordinator. Coach Tim Brewster announced the move Friday, a few weeks after hiring Jeff Horton as offensive coordinator to replace Jedd Fisch, who left for the NFL. Offensive line coach Tim Davis has also carried the title of running game coordinator.
Brewster, Minnesota agree to 2-year extension (AP)
Minnesota is sticking with football coach Tim Brewster, his vow to advance the program unfulfilled through three topsy-turvy seasons. Brewster and the university agreed Friday to a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season. Both sides declined to reveal terms of the deal before Brewster, who was out of town, signs it next week.
Minnesota Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
What if? What if the Gophers had found more offensive firepower toward the end of a 35-21 loss to Cal, a game tied through three quarters? What if they'd kept the momentum in the third quarter of a 31-28 loss against Wisconsin before a costly turnover changed everything? And what if they hadn't fallen into that 28-7 deficit at halftime in a 35-32 loss against Illinois? Those three home losses cost the Gophers a chance to play in a top-tier, non-BCS bowl. A second consecutive trip to the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Ariz., where they'll face Iowa State Dec. 31, will have to suffice. Not that that particular bowl or destination creates warm, bubbly holiday feelings around Minneapolis.
Gophers hire Lions QB coach as O-Coordinator (AP)
Minnesota has hired Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach Jeff Horton to be its third offensive coordinator in three years. Horton replaces Jedd Fisch, who left after just one season to be the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks. And he has plenty of work to do. The Gophers finished last in the Big Ten in total yards, points per game and touchdowns scored.
