Membership in the Marching Band is open to all interested students. Like all other band ensembles, Marching Band is an academic class taken for credit. All interested students are invited to join the band, and everyone who signs up for Marching Band becomes a member. Although music majors are encouraged to join, the majority of Marching Band members are from other academic disciplines.

"Being in Marching Band made my freshman year more fun. I had 200 friends before classes even started. It made the U of M seem smaller."

The U of M Drumline is an integral part of the U of M Marching Band, performing in football pre-game and halftime shows, parades, two annual indoor concerts and more. The Drumline has followed a 112 year tradition of excellence. The Drumline is made up of the following sections:

About Alternates — Alternates are very important to our line. If you do not make a designated spot on the line, an alternate position is available. Alternates will be given a chance to challenge in during Wednesday night rehearsals to get a spot in a pre-game and half time show. Aside from having plenty of time to practice and progress in your playing ability, being an alternate keeps you connected with the Drumline and helps in potentially making a spot on the line next year.

We hold three pre-season practices prior to Spat Camp. This year these optional 7pm–9pm rehearsal dates are Wed. July 30, Wed. August 6, and Wed. August 13. Rookies are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in said practices.
